Choosing the right therapist: Meeray’s person-centred therapy philosophy

‘One of the most beautiful gifts in the world is the gift of encouragement. When someone encourages you, that person helps you over a threshold you might otherwise never have crossed on your own.’

— John O’Donohue, Eternal Echoes

Welcome to a space where your deepest growth and soul reclamation are at the heart of the therapy process. I’m Meeray, a PACFA Registered clinical counsellor, psychotherapist and group counsellor – and I’m ready to help you cross the threshold into your future.

As I see it, healing isn’t simply about alleviating symptoms. It’s about reconnecting with the you that exists beneath the layers of past trauma, societal conditioning and unhelpful core beliefs. Therapy is a classroom for life, blending art, science, intuition, spirituality and creativity while staying present to what it means to be human.

Isn’t that divine? Better yet, healing is not about transcending experiences but rather about fully experiencing, integrating, and transforming your wounds. Confusion and discomfort has something to reveal to you that clarity and certainty never, ever could.

You are not broken, nor is there something wrong with you. This is brave, challenging work and I salute anyone willing to commence this journey. I’ll be with you every step of the way.

Let’s begin

So what is that process? Great question. It’s different for everyone, but – with my integrative, person-centred approach – I utilise relational psychodynamics, attachment theory, creative and expressive therapies, Gestalt therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic psychotherapy, Polyvagal Theory and depth psychology practices alongside my experiences and training in nature-based rites of passage, such as Vision Quest and death midwifing. Carefully woven as called for, these practices can help you explore and process emotions, heal unresolved wounds and create space for lasting shifts.

American psychologist Carl Rogers put it best: “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I change.” Basically, therapy is not merely about solving problems. It’s about embracing and understanding the complexity of your humanity.

All of you.

Your true self is the self that can never be extinguished. That self exists beyond the challenges you’ve faced. In returning to this central version of you, we foster emotional resilience, rewire neural pathways, settle the fear-driven brain and build long-term mechanisms that promote self-compassion and self-awareness. To sit with the unknowing for long enough for wisdom to reveal itself is part of the grand therapeutic mystery.

You and your therapist

That process starts with picking the right therapist. The sacred connection you’ll share is vital for healing. My role is not to “fix” you but to walk alongside you as a compassionate witness, creating a safe, non-judgmental space for you to express yourself fully.

It’s in this safe connection that true transformation begins. Together, we will work to engage in meaningful emotional processes, gradually moving beyond surface-level talking and then delving into the heart of your lived experience.

This is a place where your feelings are honoured somatically, where your adaptive reactions are understood in context, where the wisdom of your body and emotions are appreciated, and where real change can begin.

I know first-hand what it means to sit in the client chair, to encounter all the aspects of self that feel messy and tender and bring them into a reparative relationship. I’ve been there. Don’t get me wrong: sitting in that vulnerable position is not a simple or easy process. It does have the potential, however, to be a truly life-changing gift.

Beyond the mind

Your body carries the wisdom of your experiences. Each one of your 37.2 trillion cells is attuned to your thoughts, beliefs and emotions. This interconnectedness of things is central to the healing process.

Albert Einstein once wisely said: “No problem can be solved from the level of consciousness that created it.” Once we move beyond survival mode, we feel safe enough within ourselves to open up to possibility. We’ll strengthen your coping mechanisms and open up a world of new grounded approaches. The tunnel vision will relax and life will become visible through a wider lens.

Together we will feel emotions deeply and move through them. This mind-body integration helps create lasting change. Leaning into somatic awareness, stillness and journalling, we build new neural pathways and strengthen emotional regulation. This transformation happens in your body and in your nervous system, and in your mind, and will undoubtedly contribute to your overall life experience.

A journey to wholeness

In our work together, safety is key. I am here to hold space for you. This space allows you to feel and express your emotions without shame or judgement, building the emotional muscle required for transformation. We will strengthen your internal coherence, developing greater emotional resilience and self-regulation.

Through the sacred work of re-membering – the process of restoring unity by reconnecting the fragmented parts of ourselves – you will return to the right relationship with yourself. Trauma may have created ruptures in your connection to yourself and others, eroding your ability to trust the safety of your connections; with patience and steadiness, we can meet these wounds – and heal them.

Keep in mind

This therapeutic journey is best suited for those who are willing to engage deeply with themselves and ready to get curious. Your may resonate with this approach if:

  • you are open to processing your emotions through the body, exploring and understanding your nervous system;
  • you are willing to meet the younger, defended parts of yourself with compassion and curiosity;
  • you desire to evolve from familiar but limiting patterns and to explore the shadow aspects of yourself that have been hidden;
  • you are willing to grow skills in “being with” discomfort;
  • and you are curious to enter into a process with a supportive person, who trusts the innate healing capacity you have wired into you and setting the right conditions for that healing to unfold.

If you are prepared to walk the path of deep healing and ready to rediscover your innate wisdom, please reach out. No matter where you are located, I offer digital telehealth services to support your journey. I offer deeply personalised therapy sessions that can be undertaken from the comfort of your own home.
